On June 6, 2012, in Hanoi, Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT), World Vision in Vietnam and AusAID joined to organize the signing ceremony for implementing “Childhood” project.
Attending the event were Deputy General Director of VNAT Nguyen Manh Cuong, Chief representative of World Vision in Vietnam Eward Danielraj Selvanayagam, coordinator of Childhood project, representatives of VNAT’s departments and press agencies.
In recent years, Vietnam tourism industry has rapid growth in both quantity and quality. However, in order to improve tourism quality ensuring sustainability, VNAT always cares for social issues which are considered as indispensable content in tourism development policy. Vietnam has already had legislative policies on the protection and care of children. Social - economic issues related to children are always of interest in Vietnam, especially the problem of child sexual abuse in tourism activities. The Vietnam Government has paid great attention and reserve a large amount in national budget, and in deal with the issue in addition to support of other nationals and international organizations. In 2000, thanks to the help of the Australian AID, VNAT has implemented activities to prevent sexual abuse of children in tourist destinations.
World Vision in Vietnam is a humanitarian organization, operating through relief programs and improving quality of community life, especially the child-support, poor and needed people.
The signing ceremony of the Child hood project period 2012-2014 shows significant important efforts of the tourism industry in the protection of children from the negative impacts arising in tourism activities.
