Recognized as a World Natural Reserve, the Vam Sat Eco-Tourist Area in Can Gio District is a popular destination for tourists to discover water life, biodiversity and local culture.
With its goal of bringing something a bit special to tourists, the area is offering visitors the chance to be a Vam Sat farmer for the day.
If you sign up for the tour with Saigontourist, you will depart from HCMC by bus or boat from Bach Dang Wharf in District 1. If going by bus, you will be picked up by boat at Dau Day wharf to cruise around the mangrove forest, exploring fauna and flora species in the forest and seeing farmers do a spot of fishing.
Tourists then will take a boat to trap crab in Vam Sat. Whilst waiting for crabs to enter traps, guests will go on a small wooden boat to visit Doi Nghe reserve for 30 minutes.
The most unexpected moment comes when tourists catch crabs which will be used for lunch.
You will then stop at an oyster fishing village. Guests will have a chance to see how oyster live and how farmers raise them and catch them. The important thing is that tourists can catch oysters together with farmers and then enjoy the catch with them.
Fishing is another must. Tourists will be asked to put on traditional costumes of the Southern farmer, then bring a fish trap and wade in the canals or ponds to catch fish.
Staff at the tourist area will show tourists how to grow trees and also the brave ones can learn how to feed crocodiles.
The tour is priced from VND850,000 to VND1.15 million per guest, depending on the number of visitors.
